Fly Fishing for Striped Bass
When targeting Striped Bass on the fly, we tend to fish with 8-11 weights, and intermediate to fast-sink lines. Casts of 40-60 feet are standard, and a strong double haul is a must. We mimic a wide range of forage species that may be present in the bay such as adult and peanut bunker, bay anchovy, sand eels, herring, and American eels. Flies range from 3”-12”: hollow-tied bucktails, flat-wings, divers, and Clouser Minnows are our bread and butter.
Light tackle fishing for Striped Bass
when targeting Striped bass with spinning gear, we tend to fish using light rods with small poppers and jigs to mimic peanut bunker and bay anchovies in the back bays, or heavier equipment utilizing large plugs to mimic adult bunker. We do not utilize bait to target striped bass.
